Sustainable Development Goal 15
Life on Land
Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss.
Why it matters
The bigger picture
Biodiversity loss and deforestation threaten ecosystem services and food security. Raising environmental awareness at the local level creates long-term impact in protecting terrestrial ecosystems.
Combating poaching and the illegal trafficking of species is one of the urgent priorities in protecting biodiversity.
The 2030 Agenda does not treat Life on Land in isolation from the other sixteen goals. Progress depends on inclusive policies, reliable data, long-term investment, and cooperation between public institutions, civil society, academia, and the private sector. Connecting local action to measurable outcomes is therefore essential for turning the global framework into lasting change.
