Sustainable Development Goal 07
Affordable and Clean Energy
Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.
Why it matters
The bigger picture
Access to energy is one of the key determinants of economic development and quality of life. The transition to renewable energy is critical both to slowing the climate crisis and to strengthening energy security.
Improving energy efficiency is a double win that benefits both household budgets and industrial competitiveness.
The 2030 Agenda does not treat Affordable and Clean Energy in isolation from the other sixteen goals. Progress depends on inclusive policies, reliable data, long-term investment, and cooperation between public institutions, civil society, academia, and the private sector. Connecting local action to measurable outcomes is therefore essential for turning the global framework into lasting change.
